canon character/series: Malik Ishtar/"Other" Malik || Yu Gi Oh name: Malik Ishtar age: 16 gender: M race/ethnicity: human/Egyptian sexuality: Bi. appearance: On first glance, one might not be able to place Malik Ishtar as Egyptian. His hair is pale blonde, 'sun bleached' if one prefers to think in those terms. In addition to being pale in color, he wears it long, almost down to his shoulders. In general his appearance isn't sloppy but it is clear that he is not trying to conform. Even on closer inspection, his heritage would not be apparent. Malik has purple (violet, lavender, whatever floats your fancy) eyes, which have small angular tattoos at the corners. The only obvious feature that places Malik in a country with perpetual sun would be his skin, which while not dark, is definitely tan. Malik tends to stand out in a crowd, regardless of his behavior. Standing at five foot eleven (180cm), he is a head above many of his peers. He wears several items of gold jewelry, two earrings that consist of a ball and inverted prism, two sets of bracelets (one on the upper arm, and a set closer to his wrists) as well as a gold chain link necklace. Malik likes lighter colors (though he is not always seen in them, due to ... ah, circumstances). Typically he will wear lighter colored linen pants and a pale violet vest of some kind. On occasion one might catch him in a dark colored shirt, but it is best to avoid him on those days. Which brings up the existence of Malik's "other". More specifically, the little voice in his head that likes to brutally maim and kill people. Not a true separate entity, the darker side of Malik is a division in his personality, and the outlet for all of Malik's negative emotions. The change in the two personalities is easily apparent, however. He refers to himself as 'al-malik', meaning 'the king', liking the irony, is easily distinguished from Malik by his eyes. As al-Malik, his pupils constrict and become almost nonexistent. His expression is set in a perpetual smirk and the occasional vein will show on his face. To some observers, it may appear that there is a mirage effect, like al-Malik isn't all there... personality: At the moment, Malik's personality revolves around his goal. His goal to kill the Pharaoh, that is. In general he can be very focused and cunning to further his goal. He can be pleasant and get along with other people, but they certainly don't mean anything to him. This is where he and his other self tend to blend a bit. Al-Malik has a goal that is like his counterpart's, to eliminate the pharaoh. However, while Malik wishes to kill the Pharaoh in revenge for the death of his father, al-Malik wishes kill things in general. While Malik appears to be the dominant personality, he also can easily be overpowered by his other self. Malik is impetuous at times, a bit aloof and wants to travel. He is far more focused on his whims and hates the idea of duty imposing on personal agendas. He believes himself to have the moral high ground in almost any situation. Despite his anger and hatred issues, Malik is also very attached to those close to him. These two people would be Rishid and his sister Isis, even if he pushes them away/tries to separate from them. Does Malik hold grudges? Yes, very much so. He is a bit socially stunted in that he doesn't see that other people could be worth as much as him. Personal freedom is very important to him. On the other hand, al-Malik is completely amoral. While Malik will make sacrifices or choose to use people for his goal, al-Malik just doesn't care. He likes death, he likes torture and to say that he has an ego would be an understatement. When he says 'I' there is a clear impression that he means 'I' in a 'holier better than you' sort of way. Torture entertains him, and he doesn't care for/about his other self all that much. It isn't even that it is entertainment so much as he has an obsession with pain. Given the opportunity he would seize the body. He is constantly either in control or under the belief that he is. While he may get angry, his emotions tend to stay in the arrogant, psychotic, and amused-because-I-know-your-death-is-coming range. abilities/weaponry: Malik always has a strange gold rod on him. The rod has a sphere with a stylized eye on it, two sharp edges and a hidden blade. The blade speaks for itself in practicality. While Malik himself may never use the knife, his other self is quite proficient in using it to maim people, notably, skinning as well as other fun activities. The rod has a secondary purpose as being a mind control device. Malik can both take over minds and 'speak through' people's bodies and set people to doing a certain task. He has to have an opening or the person has to be particularly weak for him to take control. While this offers him no psychic defense, al-Malik effectively blocks out telepaths from mind control (though they are still able to search his mind). Besides the rod, Malik has a fair number of spells he can implement. Most of his spells are draining or torture spells. Invoking slow and painful death. Most of these are poison, drain, iron maiden-esque spells. Easier to avoid than they are to escape once caught. He has a few spells which are outside of that range, being defense spells or trap spells, but most of his magic fall into torture or drain. weaknesses: Malik's body has no specific skills or abilities. It is a normal, fairly lightweight, teenager body. He catches diseases and takes damage the same as the average person. His physical strength is not above average, and he gets cold easily. Both Malik and his counterpart have fairly large egos and don't consider the idea that they may be wrong or get out thought very often. Neither of them would consider themselves to have any 'peers'. Al-Malik just believing himself to be far above anyone else, and Malik with the 'no one can understand me' and the feeling that he is more special than anyone else. Currently, Malik is unaware of the existence of his other self, which causes trouble. He is also a vegetarian, while al-Malik doesn't feel the need to eat. Malik is very attached to his sister and Rishid. Any harm that may come to them, he immediately is against. If they were used as bait, he would either crumble or do something incredibly rash. history: Malik Ishtar was born into a secret clan of Tombkeepers. They were a part of the People, charged with the task of keeping the tomb of the Pharaohs safe. Over the years their numbers dwindled and their lives became harder. Malik was born into this tradition, an heir of sorts. An unwilling heir. From an early age Malik wanted things that were outside of their world. Anything that wasn't part of the Tombkeeper's life, Malik wanted. He clashed heads with his father over this issue, and convinced his sister Isis to take him 'out' on at least one occasion. It was from this trip which Malik saw the sea on an advertisement, it was so far removed from the desert that he immediately wanted to go to the ocean. Upon returning from that little escapade above, however, Malik was 'initiated'. This involved carving a complex set of hieroglyphs into his back with a hot dagger. This would be when his other self first showed himself. Al-Malik took control of their body and skinned their father alive. Well, not his father, al-Malik would point out if asked. Malik's father, and not even because he deserved it, but because it would be fun. Malik's adoptive 'brother', Rishid, then managed to somehow seal the other self away, or coax out the true Malik. Upon coming to himself, Malik discovered his father's body and was a little more than distraught. The next couple of years was spent getting as far away from the desert as he could. Malik cut his ties with his sister, as she felt that she should still be duty bound. Disgusted with her attitude he told her that he was going to kill the Pharaoh and release them from their duty. Rishid traveled with him, and they went looking for any information. Not only that, but Malik indulged in all of the things he had been unable to do before. This kept his other self relatively quiet. More recently, Malik has grown impatient with his search for the Pharaoh. He and Rishid split ways, albeit fairly reluctantly on Rishid's side. crew position: Seaman |
